You are but a game to me

"It is right not to deny one's self too soon all familiarity with the big impressive gestures which only jealousy can teach us, the big facile and murderous gestures, meticulously pre-mediated, so masterfully accomplished in imagination that it is foolish and pointless to carry them out...

...I am talking now about those acts of sympathetic magic which do not seriously harm anyone, not even the one who casts the spells, provided the people concerned are strong and hearty. They will get off with a confused and transient uneasiness, a feeling of langour, a few slight shocks such as might be caused by a finger laid on one's shoulder. But these are the messages that are sent by love as well as by hate, so I cannot guarantee their complete harmlessness."
