London '09

"...the black slate roofs glistening their sharp edges, the mud black with coal-dust, the pavements wet and black. It was as if dismalness had soaked through and through everything. The utter negation of natural beauty, the utter negation of the gladness of life, the utter absence of the instinct for shapely beauty which every bird and beast has, the utter death of the human intuitive faculty was appalling".

England, according to DH Lawrence, late 1920's.

To pass the time

I'm thinking about future projects as opposed to the ones that are currently bearing down on me. Unproductive yes, but far better than trying to tackle any actual work.
Here is what I'm considering doing over summer.

This roughly translates as - living in if not building some kind of majestic tree house and traveling both back in time and in my 1950's plane (which I know how to fly).
More impossible dreams to come as procrastination continues.

A Perfect Echo

I have become a little obsessed with Neil Young of late, specifically a set of live recordings from the late 60's early 70's period.
I particularly love the opening to Sea of Madness and the the nearly 15 minute long Cowgirl in the Sand. I can imagine open spaces, clear skies, grassy hills, chilled out crowds and a sense of pure bliss - as cliche as all of that may be.
It seems I'm on a nostalgic trip for things I haven't lived through, maybe if I had I wouldn't want to live it so badly or find it nearly as romantic.

Androdynous suits and black coffee in a carton.

What a busy bee she must be. And yet still makes time for a muffin. Her suit looks like she has a serious job that she can still wear suspenders to. I want her job. And the black coffee. In a carton.

Roar

I'm going on safari in a two days. I'm excited about the lions but nervous about the bugs on the wall at nighttime. This picture makes me see the romance in scummy surroundings.
