Final Three

For no other reason than these are the most recent images in my pictures folder. Probably has something to do with the shift in weather, and the fact my throat is ripping it up at the moment.

Kim Manfredi

"There is a separate entity of the landscape that exists in the human psyche...What is attached to each place is a time which has passed, that carries on through our memory. It is the constant reference that cannot be separated from the image - it is the landscape of the mind." - Brendan George Ko

Anemone

"Hold your breath and see the anemone, down by the high-tide pilings in the wharf, a flowerlike, ghostlike, windlike creature, anemos, jelly buttercup whirly and whorling. It behaves like flora in its fauna limbs it floats like helium in its water world. Dulse and ribbonweeds sway with its sea leaps, mussels and whelks sit beside it when it rests. It has few enemies, the anemone; and melts when touched.
The oceans support so many ghosts, many flowers and many winds, but none is more vegetable than this air, none more dancing than this music, the music of the origami umbrella's name, anemone of the ways, translucent breeze.
Anemone, anemone.
Breathe."
- Bradford Morrow, from a book worth $6000.

Hanging by a thread

Stunning images from the Human Nature photography series by Debbie Carlos.
"The murky quality of the lighting and the dark desaturated tones of the exhibits, convey a sensuality and romanticism at odds with the sense of stagnant death that lingers in the cracked skin of 100-year-old taxidermied animals and birds strung up as though in flight with fishing line. Inside the museum, nature is labeled, classified, and static, turned into an object of knowledge. These photos attempt to capture the mystery and romance of this very pursuit—the sincerity of the scientific endeavor, the pathos of its visible failure, and the beauty of the attempt to engage with nature."

Kiki Smith & Paul McCartney

"You see, you're asking questions which are quite serious... and you're not asking us, uhh you know, where we get our hair cut. You can't expect all these sort of happy answers when you're asking serious questions." - McCartney

Completely unrelated but two things I'm loving.

Shape Shifter

"...is it possible to live without a single image?... [The single image] creates the conflict between what I am and what I want others to think I am. That image is just an imaginary thing, that is not the actuality of me, so it is based on illusion. The ego, that division, comes from the image, not from the fact. The ego arises from the manner in which I approach life.”

Bulls on Parade

Hey check me out as naked armless torso with a bulls head!
Artwork by my dearly beloved Rebecca Brookman.

(This post was sanity saving, anger subsiding, frustration management... cause I'm a fucking armless naked bull-lady and how could you not be happy with that? It's brilliant.)

Leandro Erlich blew my mind

I originally was just intending to post this -

But then I got stuck in a place of confusion and awe at the rest of the art Leandro creates. Amazing.

Barber Shop Buzz-hub

The Left Coast Festival, a 50 day event launching in a Darlinghurst hybrid barber shop and record store, begins tomorrow. It involves a myriad of art and musical experimentation's which I can't even begin to translate here considering I read the program and barely understand it myself beyond the words "LIVE" and "EXHIBITION". But it will include "a live pain vs pleasure synthesis conveyed through a tattoo/sound art performance" as well as the following work Flohawk by Rose Vickers.

Be prepared for a collision of the senses.

Until the Kingdom Comes

"If we see a blinking light in the sky, we immediately think UFO. We don't consider boring possibilities - we believe the most spectacular possibility." - Simen Johan

The disenchanted leopard

"The patriarch of an Alaskan hoary marmot colony spends his day gallivanting around the slopes in search of excitement, usually of a sexual nature. A zebra is white with black stripes and a cheetah can never retract its claws. Giant anteaters are solitary far roaming creatures that run away on the sight of another while their tongues are so long they are attached to their sternums. Lemurs and hyenas run a matriarchal society that rights the female priority in feeding, grooming and sleeping sites. 'Lemur' is Latin for ghost and their tails visually communicate with other prosimians."
